It sits on the north-west slope of Ong Lang Beach, Phu Quoc's quietest and most scenically dramatic shore, 12 km from Duong Dong town. The bungalow faces due west across the Gulf of Thailand, and in the late afternoon the sky turns colour sequences that make every guest reach for their phone.
What makes this cabin genuinely different from anything on Booking.com at this price point is the private 4×3 m freshwater plunge pool on your own deck — not shared, not a feature of the resort, yours alone for the duration of your stay. The pool is cleaned and refilled each morning by our groundskeeper. The wraparound teak deck (20 m²) holds the pool, a hammock, a double sun lounger, a rattan dining set, and a built-in BBQ grill. You could spend an entire day here without leaving.
Inside, the bungalow is 42 m² across two levels: a king bedroom with en-suite rainfall shower on the ground floor, and a twin loft above accessed by a polished-wood stair — perfect for two children or two friends who want their own space. Both levels have inverter AC units and USB charging. The whole structure is built from FSC-certified tropical hardwood, bamboo panel cladding, and a double-layered palm-thatch roof that insulates naturally and stays cool even in peak March heat. This cabin sleeps up to 4 guests — two couples, a family of four, or a small group — and at $59/night in low season, it delivers what Bali charges $200 for.
A Typical Day at the Pool Bungalow
The Ong Lang morning is different from anywhere else on Phu Quoc. No jet-skis, no beach vendors with sunbeds, no PA system. Wake naturally when the birds start, step onto your deck, and find the pool already warm from yesterday's sun — Ong Lang's shallow bay retains heat overnight. Breakfast is whenever you want it: we leave a welcome kit of Vietnamese drip coffee, tropical fruit, and rice crackers, and the nearest cafe (Ong Lang Kitchen, 300 m away) serves fresh baguettes and eggs from 07:30.
Mid-morning, borrow the complimentary motorbike and take the 30-minute coastal ride south to Long Beach — the contrast is striking, and worth doing at least once. Or spend the morning in the private pool with the hammock on standby. The beach is 80 m from the cabin: the walk takes about 90 seconds, and Ong Lang's dark-sand cove is rarely crowded even in high season. Snorkelling gear is available to borrow free of charge; the coral fringing reef 200 m offshore has parrotfish and small turtles.
By 16:30, return to the deck. The sun drops into the Gulf of Thailand from directly in front of you — this is the main event. Pull the sun lounger to the pool edge, open a local Saigon beer (cold from the in-room fridge), and watch one of Southeast Asia's most reliably dramatic sunset shows unfold over 45 minutes. Dinner can be cooked on the terrace BBQ (we supply the charcoal), or ride 10 minutes to the Ong Lang strip for some of the best grilled fish on the island. By 21:00, the sky is thick with stars — no street lighting this far from town — and the only sounds are waves and night insects. Sleeping under a thatched bamboo ceiling to that soundtrack is what guests keep trying to describe in their five-star reviews and failing to do justice.
